Design Overview
The SuperGAME design tools allow you to quickly create game components, populated with real data, to test and prototype your game ideas.
Project Structure
Each project represents a single game, including all of its components, rules, expansions, and variants.
Game components are the fundamental building blocks of your design. They can be any game piece required to play, including cards, pawns, tokens, boards, etc.
Each component has one or more sides, which are called faces. Some types of components, like boards, only have 1 face. Some, like cards, only have 2 faces. Some, like tokens, can have any number of faces.
The visual appearance of each face is defined by regions. A region is a small portion of the face. You can change the color, borders, background image, text and many more properties of each region.
Game Data
When you build a game component you are really just creating a template for how the final components will look. For example, all the cards in a deck might have the same layout, borders, and sections, but the content (title, description, icons, etc.) would be different for each individual card.
SuperGAME Party lets you link a spreadsheet (called a Data Sheet) containing the content for this component to your project. Once a data sheet is linked, you are able to preview your components with real data in the component editor and also print all of the components you need for a real-world play test.
See Data Sheets for more information.
- Link different sheets for different languages to support players from across the globe
Printing
You can print your components by using the 🖶 Print page. This allows you to take your designs to the table to play test.
- Manually layout non-2-sided components, such as dice or screens
- Print to your local print shop
- Print to templates used by professional services such as The Game Crafter
Play Test
- Try your design out with real players over the internet
- Collect notes and take feedback
- Make live tweaks to components or rules while the play test is in progress
Manual
- Design and layout the physical manual for your game
Rules
- Publish your game digitally for players to enjoy online
- Define unique layouts and screens to optimize your game for play on any screen size
- Implement the full ruleset for your game to allow players to play online with rules enforced
- Define versions, expansions, and variants to allow players full control of their game session
